SAT/ACT Boot Camps
September 14, 2020 – We understand that the upcoming college admissions process may be very confusing for many families. For many years we have offered our SAT/ACT Boot Camps as a fundraiser in partnership with DB Academics to provide Dana Hills High School students with “last minute” test preparation (review, pacing, testing strategies, etc.) before taking the PSAT, SAT or ACT.
Only current juniors should consider doing our Boot Camps.
NOTE: Our Boot Camps are not the same as the mock SAT/ACT being offered by Futureology. The mock exams are a chance to take the full-length exam under "mock" conditions so you can see how you might score without the score going on your record.
Rest assured, we are watching the news closely regarding policy changes for the SAT and ACT.
-
The Cal State system and the UC system for the Class of 2021 are “test blind” (they will not consider test scores for admissions or scholarship). -
Private and out-of-state schools across the country are announcing their own policies regarding testing requirements for admissions and many of them have decided to be "test optional" (SAT or ACT will be considered if submitted, but you cannot be penalized for not submitting scores).
-
You can look up any school on the NACAC database to see their policies for the upcoming Fall 2020 application cycle: https://www.nacacnet.org/news--publications/newsroom/college-admission-status-coronavirus/
Why should your student consider taking the SAT or ACT if many schools are not requiring them?
While SAT or ACT scores may not be used for making admissions decisions, they still may be used for the evaluation for:
-
Scholarships (merit awards, Western Undergraduate Exchange, etc.)
-
Direct entry programs like nursing
-
College course placement
We will continue to offer our SAT/ACT Boot Camp, but in a modified online format for the Spring 2021. We feel this change will address social distancing concerns and allow students to prepare for the SAT and ACT in an interactive and engaging environment.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
